NISD Going Google CIT Share

The first official NISD Going Google Webinar was completed yesterday, Monday, November 5...CHECK!!!

If you were in attendance during yesterday's webinar, I think you probably had these takeaways:
The trainer was very knowledgeable.
The trainer was very organized.
The trainer went very fast!

In my opinion, the webinar accomplished what it set out to accomplish. BUT, it went very fast and didn't allow for all teachers to neccessarily follow along, be hands-on, etc. It was VERY good with information and knowledge. I think it gave teachers a nice overview of Google Mail and Calendar.

Jim Baker "Mr. Analogy" said it best when he said, "The webinar was great because it exposed everone to the possibilities for Google Mail and Calendar. It's like a buffet. If you don't walk by and see all the choices being offered, you don't know what all you will want to put on your plate."

Although there is no "required training" for Google you are responsible for beyond facilitating these initial webinars...I KNOW most of you are already thinking about your individual campus needs and ways you plan to followup on the Going Google Webinars.

I wanted to start this post as a place for you to share ideas you plan to use for followup Google training on your campuses.

Your "NEW" School Training Needs

Your "NEW School Training Needs

In an effort to try to support you guys as best as I can, I would like to get an idea from you on who needs what kind of training you are finding yourselves needing.

I know many of your "NEW schools have technologies you might not be completely or AT ALL familiear with.

These are a few sessions I have brainstormed:
ELMO
Promethean Board
iPod Nano/iTouch Carts/Suitcases
Kidspiration

Note: Some of the SW/HW you all are listing is not supported by AT, they are supported by other departments (EX. NEOs, 2Know, Imagine Learning, Rosetta Stone, etc.) Please list it anyway...it will help me know overall needs to get contacts on these specific items.

Please respond to this post if you have any of these needs so that I am able to get an idea of numbers. ALSO, include in your post any other items you have come upon.

Usually I have a small handful of NEW CITs to support with unique hardware training needs, this year 35 of you are in NEW-ish situations.

I'll do my best to figure out a plan for you guys :)

Just an FYI...

For managed carts that were recently delivered to campuses from Fall/Spring deployments, you will want to check your netbooks to make sure they are not missing any software.

There was an on and off problem with the standard loadset and possible missing software. The cases where I have seen missing software, it was either titles from the elementary software, Photo Story, and/or Movie Maker.

These titles are not missing everywhere! If they were missing, some of you might already have them installed and are beyond needing this info. If you are missing any of these titles, please put in a work order to have it pushed to your managed carts needing the missing software. Again, this is only as needed...

UPDATE: The Cisco MXE server is not approved for NISD use at this time. The server currently cannot handle video formats commonly used in NISD. Cisco's update schedule is currently not aggressive enough to support our needs. They update once every quarter, and there is no guarantee that our issues would be addressed at that time. 02/01/2011

MANY of them will fit PERFECTLY into our Digital Citizenship curriculum. I'll work on fitting them in officially so that they are paced out for you and you don't have to search and recall, but until I can do that, here they are!

Flash Player v10

Flash Player was pushed out district-wide following a schedule. If an individual station did not get Flash Player v10, yourself and other staff members can call the helpdesk. This is a push they can do to your station DURING YOUR CALL :) If you find that a whole lab, ect. did not get the Flash Player v10 push, please put in a work order to have it re-pushed.

TCEA "Charting New Waters" is right around the corner! I know we are all looking forward to making our way to Austin to see/hear/feel/experience technology-rich instructional possibilities!!!

Following TCEA, our next CIT Meeting "Setting Sail" is February 17.

We are in need of SKIPPERS who would like to bring back some of those technology-rich instructional possibilities...and share them out to our NISD CIT CREW.
