End-of-Year Laptop Collection

End-of-Year Laptop Collection

Memo from Lori Jones to Principals via Principal's Bulletin - Week of April 23

End-of-Year Laptop Collection

To clarify, it is NISD's practice to collect all teacher laptops at the end of the school year. The rationale for this is:

1. Numerous District-wide summer initiatives (New Teacher Academy, STEPS, summer school, various summer institutes, CampTECH, etc.) take place where a laptop in the classroom is required. After laptops are checked in, using the Laptop Computer Assignment System (LCAS), they should be cable-locked in place in classrooms where summer initiatives are taking place.

At the principal's discretion, a very small number of laptops may be re-issued (via LCAS) to teachers who require them for specific NISD school business. In general, the needs of District-wide initiatives supersede the convenience of allowing teachers to keep the laptops over the summer.

2. Teachers may leave the employ of NISD/your campus during the summer, so laptop recovery will be a non-issue when they are collected at the end of the school year.

More information about LCAS and laptop assignment procedures are located at
http://www.nisd.net/technology/projects/training.html.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

To Plug or To Unplug

To Plug or To Unplug

To Plug or To Unplug...THAT is the question :)

I know there has been a lot of confusion with "to plug" or to unplug".

Here is the deal...

The black and white of it is that computers should be kept plugged in...all the time...forever, etc.

However, we know that custodial staff has been given the task of waxing and moving everything out of rooms. If you know, on your campus, this to be the case...I would suggest taking control of your plugs in an organized fashion...as you do.

The fact that there have been mixed messages sent out to campus principals is known. The process WILL be looked at and an effort will be made to unify the message...for next year.

Lori Jones offers the following reminder, "If computers are unplugged, any district wide updates, maintenance, etc. we do remotely over the network will not happen for those PCs, which may cause some disruption during the beginning of the school year."

For this current EOY, please use your best judgement. You know your campus best. You know what to weigh...the pros and cons for the smoothest startup possible.

Please let me know if you have any questions :)
