End-of-Year Laptop Collection

End-of-Year Laptop Collection

Memo from Lori Jones to Principals via Principal's Bulletin - Week of April 23

End-of-Year Laptop Collection

To clarify, it is NISD's practice to collect all teacher laptops at the end of the school year. The rationale for this is:

1. Numerous District-wide summer initiatives (New Teacher Academy, STEPS, summer school, various summer institutes, CampTECH, etc.) take place where a laptop in the classroom is required. After laptops are checked in, using the Laptop Computer Assignment System (LCAS), they should be cable-locked in place in classrooms where summer initiatives are taking place.

At the principal's discretion, a very small number of laptops may be re-issued (via LCAS) to teachers who require them for specific NISD school business. In general, the needs of District-wide initiatives supersede the convenience of allowing teachers to keep the laptops over the summer.

2. Teachers may leave the employ of NISD/your campus during the summer, so laptop recovery will be a non-issue when they are collected at the end of the school year.

More information about LCAS and laptop assignment procedures are located at

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Laptop Inventory (for those above and beyond your OFFICIALLY DEPLOYED laptops)

Laptop Inventory (for those above and beyond your DEPLOYED laptops)

A great question was brought forth by Bonnie Debolt, CIT extraordinaire at Carlos Coon ES...

Can we use the LCAS (Laptop Computer Assignment System) to manage laptops above and beyond our OFFICIALLY DEPLOYED laptops (particularly referring to the special education laptops coming to campuses)?

Yes, you can!!!

In checking with Joe McMonagle, he said this is not a problem at all. He suggested using the STANDARD TIER code for these laptops. This is helpful information since that is a required field.

STANDARD TEIR code is TEA# + 3 zeros
Example for Leon Springs ES is 152000

If you ARE NOT a laptop deployed campus, you will have to wait until you are to use this handy laptop management tool.

Great question, Bonnie!
