Things can turn out wonderful...
I hope this email finds each of you having a really nice day :)
I feel like (lately) all of my emails have been FYIs and updates and such...I wanted to take a little break to share a bit of something more with you.
Last year, we focused on the idea of Possibility...I am still trying to keep the idea of Possibility alive within me, even though there are so many other things going on it often gets pushed aside.
Right now...in this moment...I wanted to stop and share a little something with you all that I found last night reading one of the blogs I like to follow. I recently discovered a really neat line of jewelry by Alex and Ani. Their jewelry is really neat and represents positive energy and other neat stuff :)
In addition to their jewelry, I have enjoyed keeping up with their blog. They often post really neat inspirational ideas and things that tie to Possibility :)
We often think that when we have reached a deadline and haven’t quite finished our work, everything is lost. You must remember that there is always tomorrow and different times and places bring you new blessings and experiences. Associating the dark, the unknown, and fear is only going to add stress. Realize that no matter how much you plan and work, there will always be things you can’t control, but you should never give up hope that those things can turn out wonderful.

Possibilitarian Quotes for 2012
Throughout the break, I jotted down quotes here and there that I would come across. I'm always looking for a good quote to add to my CIT Possibilitarian Handbook. I don't remember how exactly, but I hit the motherlode of quotes that are really speaking to me as we kick off 2012. They are all from the Anne of Green Gables series. I can't believe I have never read those! I have already loaded them on my iPad. I love free literature.

Fill someone's bucket today.
Fill someone's bucket today.
Many of you might have already caught this touching story on WOAI TV on Monday. I, on the other hand, am TERRIBLE as a news follower and rely on my awesome Mom. She often sends me information, links, and tips on stories and topics I "need to be on top of" :) I love her for that and am EXTREMELY thankful.
Yesterday, I came home to an email from her called, Alamo Heights elects student with Down syndrome as homecoming king. I had one of those "You had me at hello." moments. You know the ones.
I found this story so unbelievably touching...for many reasons. Here are a couple...
1. It really hit home. My first year in Northside I was teaching third grade. I was the luckyiest teacher in the word when I learned that I was selected to have Ryan in MY third grade class. Ryan was my Drew...special in so many ways, loved by the school community, loved by his peers, and with the most supportive parents.
2. It also made me think of my CIT Possibilitarian Handbook. After watching the video with tears streaming down my face, I thought to myself...THIS is why we teach. This beautiful example of a learning community, shown in this video by the Alamo Heights community, is why we do all of this. Right?
I love that Drew is the king of Alamo Heights High School. I love that all of those students filled his bucket and made him feel so special. From the video, you clearly see his enthusiasm and excitement. He shows it from ear to ear...and it is completely infectious!
In my CIT Possibilitarian Handbook, I have a list of simple ideas behind my Possibilities tab. One of those ideas is Fill someone's bucket today. Simple enough, right! We might not be able to crown a king or a queen each day, but we can fill someone's bucket by doing little things as CITs and leaders of instructional technology. It can happen in so many ways...
*Giving a shy student the confidence needed to be on the morning announcments.
*Allowing a group of students the opportunity to "earn the roll" of being Lab Managers once a week.
*Letting a student select an alternate application for a special project and allow them to shine.
I know you all do things like this each and every day. This post is more of a reminder to myself...of easy and unique ways I can fill someone's bucket :)

technology rocks. seriously.
technology rocks. seriously.
There are times when you out of the blue, someone offers you a true gem.
I received one right after our CIT meeting as everyone had started to disperse. This was an awesome moment...Michelle Fikac casually shared an AMAZING blog with me, which I have totally fallen in love with.
technology rocks. seriously.
Just the name is way cool.
There are SO many cool technology resources within this blog (I guess you can tell that from the title of the blog), and there are also WORDS. Really cool WORDS perfectly put together in a way that will really speak to you.
You all know how much I love quotes (not to mention my CIT Possibilitarian Handbook) and how I am trying to find any and all opportunities to stay away from a "Cool Whip Diet" :)
I've only skimmed the surface of the coolness within this blog.
UPDATE: OK, super. My embed codes are blocked because the print outs are hosted on www. scribd.com...which is apparently blocked in NISD (BUMMER). As you can see, I worked on this post last night from home at 2:12 AM. I don't have blocked sites at home :) Anyway, you can still view the blog technology rocks. seriously. and small versions of the printouts. To download, I guess you will have to do from home, if you are interested. Again, bummer. I love surprises, don't you! :) Keeps us on our toes.

I just think they are awesome words that our kids need an opportunity to see AND we need an opportunity to see as well.
I was thinking what a COOL desktop publishing challenge this could be. Students could collaborate and create a message that they need to deliver using simple words. Text. Finding the feeling and interpreting the words with fonts and colors to truly share that message. Lovely :)

A Peek Inside Jim's CIT Possibilitarian Handbook
Recently, Jim invited me to take a peek inside his CIT Possibilitarian Handbook. I knew you all would appreciate the thoughts and reflections for our creative writing friend. Jim gave me permission to share :)
Jim has created a Top 10 List of Truths for his CIT split so far...
Jim's Top 10 Truths
1. When you arrive on a campus after being gone a week, you receive a heroes welcome.
2. You learn some really awesome time management methods, or just refine those you already had.
3. You double the number of friendly co-workers in your life.
4. For me personally: I get to watch my good friend Jack in a new roll. He is amazing. I feel like a proud father for some goofy reason.
5. Your staffs start taking more responsibility for the things they could always have done for themselves.
6. You can wear the same clothes for two weeks in a row before breaking out something different. (Washed of course!)
7. Now twice as many children bump into me at HEB.
8. I left some things at Braun that I needed at Carson and had to go get them.
9. Since I work at each school every other week, I HAVE to finish my to do list on Friday. I can not in good conscience make a school wait a week for me to get back to finish something. That means going to the other school after work on Monday to finish up.
10. I keep leaving my CIT Possibilitarian Handbook at Carson, I think I need two.
My big "WOW!" discovery: It is harder than before, but it is not as awful as I expected. For the first time in 30 years I dreaded the start of school. I gained 20 pounds over the summer stress eating over it. What a waste of nervous energy!

My Handbook
My Handbook
I haven't had any opps to jot in my handbook during the day, BUT I keep it in my school bag and pull it out several times each week during the evening while I'm watching Big Brother or Batchelor Pad :) Please don't judge.
I find those are really nice times to balance my poor TV show selections with some Possibilitarian Goodness. That is how I look at it, anyway.
Last night, I snapped some photos of my handbook...in case anyone needs a little inspiration getting started on their own :) I'm a visual person!
