Accessing Gmail from Student Computers

Accessing Gmail from Student Computers

Gmail has been blocked on student stations, while under the student login.

This has always been the case, but for a long span of time this year it was unblocked for all of the trainings going on across the district...as we have been in the process of migrating from GroupWise to Google. Now that we have completed that that migration to Google, Gmail is now blocked again on student stations, while under the student login.

Teachers and IAs can still access their Gmail with one additional step.

They will need to authenticate into the browser.

1. Open Chrome
2. Go to a page that is blocked for students (suggesting youtube.com)
3. On the blocked page, click on "For further options, click here"
4. Your staff member will login to the Web Access Authentication
5. Make sure to keep the keep the small Authenticator window open
6. Type sso.nisd.net in the Chrome browser to access Gmail
7. When finished, close ALL windows

Chrome Shortcut for Staff Desktops

Chrome Shortcut for Staff Desktops

Many of you have been wanting to get the Chrome shortcut out to your staff so that they are able to have it on their desktop for Google Email and Calendering. This is easy to do in just a few steps!

Login as yourself (you want to make sure you have access to your campus Staff Share folder)
Go to My Computer
Go to Local Disk (C:)
Open Program Files folder
Open Google folder
Open Chrome folder
Open Application folder
You will see the Chrome.exe icon
Right click on the Chrome.exe icon and click Create Shortcut (You can rename it to Chrome)
You can now place this Chrome shortcut icon in your Staff Share folder
Opening Chrome will take you directly to the SSO login

Most of you should have a Staff Icons folder inside your Staff Share folder from when we organized your icons during your most recent deployment...this is the perfect place to put your Chrome shortcut icon. Your staff can access that folder and drag the Chrome shortcut icon to their individual desktops.

For directions on Pinning Chrome to the Taskbar (for Windows 7 Users ONLY), click here.
