NEW [Northside Created] TEA Unique ID Search Website

NEW Northside Created TEA Unique ID Search Website

TEA Unique ID Search

All NISD Staff can login to check on the status of a TEA Unique ID and whether it has been assigned.

Several online instructional programs associated with TEA have a required field for a TEA Unique ID. Before student and/or teacher account can be created for these programs, a Unique ID must be assigned to the student and/or teacher and be available for the individual uploads to these programs.

If a student or teacher is missing an account to one of these online instructional programs, the most common reason is because a Unique ID has not yet been assigned to them. The purpose of this web site is to give you access in determining if a Unique ID has been assigned or not to a student and/or teacher who is missing an account.

For students, please check the date the Unique ID was assigned. If you see the Unique ID was recently assigned, please allow 2 full days for the student's account to appear in the system in question.

If a student or staff Unique ID is missing, there are many reasons this may be the case. Human Resources and the PEIMS staff are working to get all staff and students assigned a Unique ID. Check this website frequently for updates.

Kidspiration 3 in NISD

Kidspiration 3 in NISD

Beginning with new schools in the summer of 2011 and Fall 2011 deployments forward, all elementary schools will be getting Kidspiration 3 as part of their standard loadset on ALL computers. This will take the place of Inspiration at the elementary campuses.

I wanted to make sure you all knew to expect this so that you don't spend your valuable campus funds on that piece of software. Just an FYI that it will be coming to you at the time of your next deployment.

Cool.

NEO and 2Know! Responders

NEW BLOG POST
Special Education Software UPDATE: NEO and 2Know!
November 2011

NEO and 2Know are K-12 Special Education initiatives. I want to share the information I know about them, in case you are asked for support and help with the software installations of the needed software for these pieces of hardware.

NEO
Three pieces of software need to be installed on the teacher station for the NEO hardware:
SW2011-0125 NEO Manager v3.6
SW2011-0127 Renaissance Responder v1.05
SW2011-0128 Renaissance Place Print Plugin v1.3
PO#29050806
NOTE: This software should NOT be installed campus-wide, and only on teacher stations. Possible install locations would be Special Education teacher stations, Math Specialist Stations, and Collaborative Teacher stations.

2Know! Responders
One piece of software needs to be installed on the teacher station for the 2Know! hardware:
SW2011-0388 2Know! Toolbar v2.0
PO#29050806
NOTE: This software should NOT be installed campus-wide, and only on teacher stations. Possible install locations would be Special Education teacher stations, Math Specialist Stations, and Collaborative Teacher stations.

"Clarification on the 2Know! Responders" PRINCIPAL MEMO - September 2011

Recently you received at least one set of (32) 2Know Responders. These were purchased with IDEA-B Stimulus Funds to support the Renaissance STAR Math and Accelerated Math Intervention for Special Education students and General Education students going through the RtI process. The 2Know Responders are also a great way to engage students with the curriculum in the classroom.

Please place these on your Special Education Inventory and house them in the Special Education Dept.

2Know Responder training will be offered at NLC, Bldg D on Sept. 7, and 21 from 3:30-5:30 and October 17, 18, 20 and 24 from 4:30-6:00.

For more information please contact Debbie Scales at 397-8786

I-READY Diagnostic and Instruction

I-READY Diagnostic and Instruction

Special Education has a K-12 initiative using an online tool called I-READY. I-READY replaced the DOMA program, which was being used last year in Special Education.

I-READY is a web-based program that includes a diagnostic and online instruction module that allows students the differentiated instruction needed to accelerate their learning.

I wanted to let you know...as an FYI...about program because it needs a certain version of Flash Player to run. I have let the Special Education Department know to tell their teachers to contact you if they get a message that an updated Flash Player is needed. Only if your campus does need an update, here is the newest Flash Player available for your convenience in putting in that work order. IF NEEDED, you can request that it be pushed to your entire campus.

Tier 3 Software

Tier 3 Software

The procedure is for laptops to be assigned to grade levels (content areas at secondary). If a teacher moves to a different grade level, they are assigned a laptop with that grade level's software (mostly textbook). In cases where this isn't possible, software numbers have been created for Tier 3 titles. This will make putting in a work order to get a laptop ready for a different grade level SUPER EASY!

Managed Carts - Netbook Software

Managed Carts - Netbook Software

Just an FYI...

For managed carts that were recently delivered to campuses from Fall/Spring deployments, you will want to check your netbooks to make sure they are not missing any software.

There was an on and off problem with the standard loadset and possible missing software. The cases where I have seen missing software, it was either titles from the elementary software, Photo Story, and/or Movie Maker.

These titles are not missing everywhere! If they were missing, some of you might already have them installed and are beyond needing this info. If you are missing any of these titles, please put in a work order to have it pushed to your managed carts needing the missing software. Again, this is only as needed...

Lexia in Northide

Lexia in Northside

Curriculum and Instruction has made a purchase of Lexia "Flexi" licenses for 52 campuses. Because Lexia stand alone CDs are no longer supported by Lexia, this is a really good thing!

There are 52 schools currently using a total of 270 stand alone CDs. These CDs are being replaced by "Flexi" licenses. A Flexi license allows a student to login to Lexia from ANY computer on the campus where the Lexia client is loaded.

I just put in a work order for the 52 campuses involved. This work order is requesting that the Lexia client be installed on ALL the stations at your campus...to allow for flexibiltiy of intervention times and locations.

Sonya Tatsch is the lead on this software intervention and is keeping her reading specialists updated, but I wanted to make sure you all knew what was happening as well. There is no action required of you at this time. This is JUST an FYI for you :)

N-TIME Login Info

N-TIME Login Info

INITIAL CONCERN

The N-time application is used by multiple individuals throughout the day. As such, 3 main strategies have been employed by campuses to access the NTIME application:

1) NISD Staff member logs into the computer and navigates to the application. This strategy violates NISD policy as it exposes the staff member's account to misuse by students who subsequently use the computer to access NTime. Additionally, resources owned by that staff member (e.g. files) are vulnerable to access by other users (in this case students). Also, any misuse of the computer by a student (or other staff members) would appear in the logs as the staff member who originally logged into the PC.

2) Use of the campus guest account. This strategy has been reported as inconvenient because the password changes daily, which requires campus staff to locate the daily password. Additionally, during the day if the screen saver engages, the password would need to be available to gain access to the computer system/N-Time.

3) Students to use their own network credentials to log into the computer, access N-Time, then log off and allow the next student to do the same. This strategy has been reported to be very time consuming, especially when there are several students needing quick access to the N-Time application.

NEW SOLUTION

A special-purpose "Kiosk" account has been created to use in place of individual or guest AD accounts when logging in to the computer(s) used to access N-Time.

username= ntime
password= nisdntime

This account can be used on any active directory computer. The password does not change. Once the account credentials are correctly entered, the computer will automatically launch the browser and the N-Time login screen will appear. The screen saver is also disabled for this account.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE N-TIME KIOSK ACCOUNT

- All functions except internet browser use is disabled

- The URL bar on browser is disabled. This will prevent access to other NISD resources

- Access to network shared folders and printers is not available

- The Internet at the district Internet filter cannot be accessed

- It will takes longer to log in to the N-Time Kiosk account the first time it is used on a computer

- It is recommended the N-Time Kiosk account only be used on hard-wired computers (not on wireless connected computers)

- Any computer where the N-Time Kiosk account is being used is still subject to campus nightly power-off schedule and the automatic wake up schedule (Wake On LAN)

All the best!

Joyce

eInstruction Software

eInstruction Software

As many of you know, our NEDS have been working hard to "fix" the eInstruction software. There were some files left out and some programming files left out (on their end), so our guys have been working to find the files, package it, and get it to work. Mission accomplished!!! Thanks so much to the NEDS group for working so hard to iron all this out :)
