N-TIME Login Info

N-TIME Login Info

INITIAL CONCERN

The N-time application is used by multiple individuals throughout the day. As such, 3 main strategies have been employed by campuses to access the NTIME application:

1) NISD Staff member logs into the computer and navigates to the application. This strategy violates NISD policy as it exposes the staff member's account to misuse by students who subsequently use the computer to access NTime. Additionally, resources owned by that staff member (e.g. files) are vulnerable to access by other users (in this case students). Also, any misuse of the computer by a student (or other staff members) would appear in the logs as the staff member who originally logged into the PC.

2) Use of the campus guest account. This strategy has been reported as inconvenient because the password changes daily, which requires campus staff to locate the daily password. Additionally, during the day if the screen saver engages, the password would need to be available to gain access to the computer system/N-Time.

3) Students to use their own network credentials to log into the computer, access N-Time, then log off and allow the next student to do the same. This strategy has been reported to be very time consuming, especially when there are several students needing quick access to the N-Time application.

NEW SOLUTION

A special-purpose "Kiosk" account has been created to use in place of individual or guest AD accounts when logging in to the computer(s) used to access N-Time.

username= ntime
password= nisdntime

This account can be used on any active directory computer. The password does not change. Once the account credentials are correctly entered, the computer will automatically launch the browser and the N-Time login screen will appear. The screen saver is also disabled for this account.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE N-TIME KIOSK ACCOUNT

- All functions except internet browser use is disabled

- The URL bar on browser is disabled. This will prevent access to other NISD resources

- Access to network shared folders and printers is not available

- The Internet at the district Internet filter cannot be accessed

- It will takes longer to log in to the N-Time Kiosk account the first time it is used on a computer

- It is recommended the N-Time Kiosk account only be used on hard-wired computers (not on wireless connected computers)

- Any computer where the N-Time Kiosk account is being used is still subject to campus nightly power-off schedule and the automatic wake up schedule (Wake On LAN)

All the best!

Joyce
