Fall ECT Meeting Overview

I wanted to let you know what FUN and EXCITING things we had the opportunity to share with ECTs today :)

Tech Apps Test w/ Doug
Doug took some time to look at the 8th grade Tech Apps Test and an overview of the results...showing strengths and weaknesses. We really wanted them to see what a big, important piece of the technology puzzle they are with this session.

Excelerating Charts w/ Jane
Additional time was spent in Excel with a focus on creating charts. The results of last year's Tech Apps Test showed this to be an area of need...we hope that this little review helps!

Timelines, Tidbits, and Tools w/ Dana
1. Boolean Searching w/ boolify.org.
2. GOOGLE Tools: Wonder Wheel and Timeline
3. Review of ECLC and the importance of following timelines.
4. Introduced a new tool, Glogster EDU. This is a tool, which was highlighted in the CIT Newsletter as a "Virtual Bulletin Board" or Graphic Blog...Glog. Joyce and I introcuced this tool as a way for them to have a web presence. The idea being a place where they can highlight things that are going on in the lab to share out with your campus communities...as well as each other.

We would ask your help in providing a space for them to link from...either on your Outreach page or another existing Dreamweaver page. Once the Glog is created, it generates a link. The link is the same and doesn't change with any edits and updates you do to the page. Pretty cool!

Here is a link to the entire session agenda I created for Timelines, Tidbits, and Tools. You will find my ECT Glog Sample there :)

I also sent them a reminder of NISD Web Publication Guidelines for Student Work. Knowing that as they think about their Glog and what they might like to share...they knew what guidelines to keep in mind and what permissioning is needed. I referred them to you for details and guidance on your campus process for acquiring the "Parental Permission Form for Web Publishing."

This vision of an ECT Lab web presence is new...and will grow. I encouraged them to begin the process and using the Glog tool as they are comfortable. Some will begin today (I've heard from two who began during their lunch!) and some will wait a bit. That is OK! We plan to build in work time during our February 2010 Spring ECT Meeting for them to have work time as well.

Thanks for your support and let me know if you have any questions :)

Dana

  2. Thank you for sharing the content. Donna came back and said the meeting was very worthwhile and useful for her work! She already taught me the two Google tricks - - COOL!

  3. Thanks for sharing! Hoping the timelines offer enough "flexiblity" to allow for TIPPA support as needed for grade level projects!

  4. Yes - replying to John - there is certainly flexibility to support TIPPA applications awareness in a "just in time" manner - but we did also want to reinforce the idea that there is a timeline and a scope and sequence. A few ECTs weren't aware of that - and we have also had reports of students from one campus coming to another without enough in the way of background skills. Thanks!

  5. Thanks for sharing Dana! My ECT was excited about the Glog. I'm glad you sent the info out so we are all on the same page.

  6. Thanks, Joyce!!! Doug, Jane, and I were discussing the same thing just a bit ago. Obviously, the smaller your campus and the more you are able to see students...the more flexibility you have in adjusting your lessons as well. In this case, you would be able to use those "optional lessons" and instead supplement "just in time" lessons needed to support TIPPA :)

  7. I'm glad you all found the ECT Meeting info helpful. I agree!!! You guys need to know what is going on so that we are all on the same page (as Noemi mentioned). We will do a much better job of this in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

  8. FYI, fonts are not showing up on the Glog when students are logged in. Helpdesk is aware and I sent them the fix. As bugs pop up, we are working through them. Just know it has been reported. :)
